My gallery currently shows for "religious" sculptures: The "Holy Spirit and Fire" and "Deborah" are both taken from Biblical events. The gallery also includes the religious sculptures "The Risen Christ" and "The Burning Bush."

It used to be that the church was the primary sponsor for the arts. Then along came the Reformation and the "baby got thrown out with the bath water!" Art was rejected from the Protestant churches in a misguided (I believe) effort to rid the church and worship experience of "corruption." I happen to believe that art should be restored to its rightful place in the church. It can be a helpful teaching device. It can be a helpful meditation aid. And sculpture can powerfully communicate spiritual truth. Words alone are woefully insufficient to communicate truth and meaning. Ever found yourself looking for words to express your love and found yourself frustrated? So let's start putting art that communicates religious truth back into the church.

Keep in mind, that my work is essentially abstraction with a dose of "realism" that makes the identification of the piece fairly obvious. But I don't normally do "realistic" sculpture that shows a lot a detail. In sculpture I don't think it is needed. In fact, I think it detracts from the essential truth a good piece of art should be trying to communicate.
