Sculpture Reviews

This clay maquette shows a male lion with a powerful mane watching over his pride. Again, I like the simplified essential movements over detail because I think it is easier for a sculpture to help the viewer focus on form and avoid getting lost in the detail. It is all too easy to say, "The artist got the eye just right." I would rather the viewer would look at the sculpture and say, "Look at the power of that lion, reclining, yet alert and ready to go into action!"

The views below are of the oak sculpture in progress with three views of the finished piece. The fourth picture shows the artist at work on the mane. This one is in the private collection of Andy Fograscher of Stellar Systems, Inc., the host for this website. Size and price are negotiable.
