This little figurine was a maquette I did for a proposal for the past, present and future. The past in this
case was easy. I had it the first try. The present was worked out after two or three tries. But the future
proved to be a bit more challenging. Twice I cut the clay model apart and threw the future back into the clay
bucket. Then I decided to do one by herself, and this happened. I liked it so much that I decided to cast the
maquette as a figurine on her own right.
Here she steps forward into the future, expectant, yet serene; graceful and ready to help create the
future into which she is moving. In this day when women have amply demonstrated that they are fully as capable
(and more so, it turns out) as men, it seemed to me that any figure representing humankind’s movement into the
future should be a female. My expectation is that as more and more women move into leadership, they will bring
about some of the most positive changes in life we have yet seen. What do you think?
