"Three Nurses", Bronze, 7 1/4 inches high by 6 inches square. "Three Nurses" is a rather abstract maquette, or model. My wife is a nurse and has a respected career as an Instructor of Nursing at an area school. Recently the school transitioned into a college and to help celebrate the event, and to honor my wife's distinguished career, I fashioned this piece - commemorating the past, present, and future of nursing The past is represented by the abstracted form of the deaconess, complete with the funny little hat and flowing cape worn 100 years ago by so many of the deaconesses that started hospitals across America. The present is represented by a male figure holding the big aluminum-clad charts used until recently. He is stepping forward. The future is represented by a tall, young woman with an electronic charting device in her hand. She is stepping into the future, pregnant with anticipation and reaching out with expectation to the opportunities that lie before her as medical science and the practice of nursing make their steady advance.
