11 inches high by 30 inches. American Black Walnut.

This 30 by 11 inch piece in American Black Walnut represents my 'mature style', along with Ying and Yang. I like to work the wood or clay in such a way that strong suggestions of realism give way to abstract lines and planes. I get joy out of creating a dialog between the two. One should flow seamlessly into the other, creating little surprises and therefore interest as your eye moves around the piece. Just when you expect more abstract lines or planes they give way to representational suggestions, and then to abstraction again. This cougar, like the Ready to Pounce 1, is designed to gather all the power in the back and point in a long apex triangle to the head. The vertical front legs and shoulder provide tension as they interupt the flow of power to the head -- ready to spring into action. The nice thing about ordering a new piece in wood is that each one is a little different. Not only is the wood grain different in each, but I usually make some changes ( I like to think of them as improvements!) each time I sculpt a new one. So while you cannot strictly say that your's is a "one of a kind" because the concept is the same and it is a copy of the first one, you can say with confidence that yours is the only one just like it. I also have three bronzes, 18 inches long and 5 inches high, available. This is in a limited edition (LE) of only four.
